It Was All in Her Head, reflects the often problematic theme of representation. In attempts to accuately capture the anatomical features of the model, we are reminded of Colonial practices of taxonomy and the categorisation of indigenous ethnic groups, recorded in anatomical drawings, casts and models, now found in the archives and repositories of museums. These measured and catalogued ‘specimens’ informed the now debunked pseudoscience of phrenology which determined intelligence by the shape and proportion of the skull and subjugated some ‘races’ as inferior to others. It feels salient to note that these false assertions still inform extant divisive rhetorics.
